Across our project communities, many adolescent girls and young women continue to face barriers that limit their ability to transition into safe, productive, and independent adulthood. Through the Girls for the Future project, we are steadily changing that reality by equipping vulnerable girls with practical, income-generating skills and restoring their sense of purpose and dignity.
Expanding Access to Skills Training
During this reporting period, we enrolled 7 new girls into the program, where they began hands-on training in beauty therapy and barbering. These are not just technical skills, they are pathways to self-reliance. Each girl is gaining the confidence to serve clients, manage small enterprises, and envision a future where they are economically independent.
The training model emphasizes practical exposure, discipline, and mentorship. Beyond learning how to braid hair or handle grooming tools, the girls are also developing soft skills such as communication, customer care, and personal responsibility, all critical for long-term success.
Progressing to Real-World Experience
We are encouraged by the progress of girls from previous cohorts. Four young women have transitioned into industrial attachment, where they are now working in real salon and barbering environments. This step is critical. It bridges the gap between training and employment by allowing the girls to:
For many of these girls, this is their first experience in a structured work environment. It marks a significant milestone from vulnerability to opportunity.
Preparing for a Major Milestone: Graduation
Looking ahead, we are proud to report that more than 20 girls are on track to graduate in August. These young women have successfully completed their training and have demonstrated both competence and commitment.
Their journey has not been easy. Many came from backgrounds marked by poverty, early motherhood, or limited access to education. Today, they stand ready to step into the world with practical skills that can generate income and transform their lives.
Graduation will not only celebrate their achievements but also signal their readiness to transition into employment, entrepreneurship, or further professional growth.
Beyond Skills: Restoring Hope and Dignity
What we are witnessing goes far beyond vocational training. The project is helping girls rediscover their worth. Confidence is growing. Aspirations are being rebuilt. Many of the girls now express hope for the future, something that was once out of reach.
We are seeing young women who were once uncertain about tomorrow now planning businesses, supporting their families, and becoming role models in their communities.
The Need Ahead
While the progress is encouraging, the demand remains high. Many more girls are still waiting for an opportunity to join the program. Key gaps continue to limit our reach, including:
With additional support, we can expand the program, reach more vulnerable girls, and ensure that those who graduate can successfully transition into sustainable livelihoods.
