In the journey to acquiring education, the girlchild is faced with a lot of challenges ranging from negative community beliefs that portray them as less superior to boys, to the biological changes within their bodies that if not well supported may reduce their self esteem. Many girls could drop out of school due to the shame of experiencing their menstrual periods without sanitary pads due to poverty rates in the family hence the parents could not afford to provide them with such.
Having identified this problem in Soweto Slums-Nairobi;Kenya, Sheepcare Community Centre for years has been committed to ensuring that the girlchild is empowered to be able to compete favourably with their male counterparts. This ,we have done through provision of sanitary towels, subsidizing the school fee, organizing training sessions to train the girls how to cope up with their body changes and take care of themselves in terms of hygiene and against being taken advantage of by irresponsible men in the society or getting into early marriages that may make them to drop out of school. This call we have seen bear fruits as many girls have been able to pursue their dreams and many at times perform even better than the boys.
We appreciate your continued support through the GlobalGiving platform, you have brought dignity to and empowered a girlchild. Through the September 2023 Little by Little Campain, You together with other like minded individuals enabled us to raise $10490 that we dedicated towards this project, a sum of 163 gilrs have been able to receive Dignity Package every month, part of it was used to organize training sessions to empower the girls both in our Primary and Secondary school, we have also managed to subsidize further the school fee for 43 girls.
In order to ensure sustainability of this, we appeal to you to help us reach those within your network to join and help us continue with this course. We would continue to appeal for your regular monthly support not only when the GlobalGiving campaign is on going.
