Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!
Once again with immense happy and gratitude to present the updated report of the project educate the girl children who were rescued from child labour and other vulnerable situations supported by the donors through GlobalGiving Platform. The 144 poor girls are being continued their studies during these period.
All our children are very happy to go to the school and the children are performing well in their studies. The children are excellent in all the school activities and participating in all the extracurricular activities which ensure an integral development and good academic performance. Don Bosco projects are regularly following up the students by visiting the school and interacting with the teachers which gave motivation and enthusiasm for the children that somebody is there for their caring the monitoring their education and behaviour formation.
This year we have rescued many children from child labour situation and admitted in our rehabilitation centres. All these children are undergoing one year remedial education (bridge course). We hope to readmit these children in the next school academic year (June 2020) and l extend the education support to these children also.
During the reporting period the following activities were organized for the children with an aim to provide opportunities for their overall growth and developement:
Under the able leadership of the Don Bosco social development, many programmes and activities were organised in the various districts of Karnataka commemorating and observing the importance of Girl child- many including public events such as awareness classes on gender equality, cultural events, signature campaigns, silent candle light march, oath taking, street play, rangoli competitions and awareness rallies etc. The following districts observed the day with great zeal and passion to promote the rights of the girl children -Bangalore, Ballari, Bidar, Chitradurga, Davangere, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Raichur and Yadgir districts of Karnataka.
The month of November was time of joy, fun and celebrations for the children in all the Don Bosco Child Care Institutions. The children had grant celebration on November 14, 2019 having organised various cultural programmes like skit, dance, singing competitions, rangoli competitions, indoor and outdoor games etc. The children were even provided with sumptuous meal and dinner. Every activity planned were aiming at making the day fun and memorable for the children to have its remembrance their lifetime.
As a mark of respect to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad- India’s freedom fighter and Independent India’s first Education Minister, every year the National day of Education is observed on November 11. The child rights modules published under the Child Rights Education and Action Movement (CREAM) was distributed to the government schools in Mysuru district.
The Child rights week was observed in various districts of Karnataka through campaigns promoting child rights and honouring the Champion of child rights, candle light march, oath taking, public awareness, rally etc. The one week observation of child rights and various activities in the 10 CREAM districts helped to reach out to more than 5000 general public.
The Children’s grama sabha was organised in the ten districts of Karnataka during the months of November and December 2019 through the CREAM project intervention by strengthening and capacitating the children to raise their voice in the appropriate platform- before the community leaders, government officials and the local self-government authorities to demand children’s rights.
World Clean-up Day observed on September 19 is aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including the problem of marine debris. BREADS in partnership with Don Bosco Green Alliance extended a hand in cleaning up the earth- ponds, rivers, canals, lakes and other places to make a cleaner and greener planet. The 9 Don Bosco institutions in the district of Karnataka widely observed the child rights week.
The Global Week to Act for SDGs was a worldwide movement to mobilise public opinion and support for the achievement of the 17 sustainable development goals (SDG) by 2030. It was meant to facilitate urgent action by world leaders because global progress is nowhere near enough to deliver on the promises made in 2015 by all nations to create a future of peace and prosperity on a thriving planet, with no one left behind. BREADS and its partner organisations in their commitment towards the SDGs, focussed on the themes of standing together for Voice, Climate, Peace, and Equality.
The children are regularly followed up by Don Bosco/BREADS staff in order to ensure their continuity in schools and improve education standard. The children were instructed to join the evening tuition classes started in their villages by BREADS and use the facility to improve their education standard and do the school assignment with the help of mentors.
The children who are getting education support from GlobalGiving are thankful for getting support for another one more year to pursue their education and excel in their life. It is true that without your generous support these children may be denied their rights to education and become wage earners in an early age.
