Dear Donors,
Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!
We are happy to present our updated report during this school examination season. The 144 poor girl children continue their studies due to the generous support from our donors through GlobalGiving platform and are busy to appear in the final assessment tests ( (school final examination) in the schools. All the children are working hard to get good performance in their final assessment tests and promote to the higher classes in the next academic year. Many Don Bosco Care Centres are provided guided classes, tuition classes and special coaching to those attending the examinations especially those appearing for class X examinations. The children who are getting education support from GlobalGiving are shared that they enjoyed the school life and the education has enhanced their confidence and self esteem. As usual we had organized various programmes to enhance their life coping skills, nurturing the values of team spirit and improve the interpersonal relationship.
During this reporting period we have received INR 70,780.32 from GlobalGiving for the project which was exclusively used for the education, food, clothes and education materials of the poor girl children. We have rescued some children from child labour situation, child marriage and street life. These children were admitted in Don Bosco Child labour centres and continue their bridge school. We hope to admit these children in formal school in the next academic year onwards. We will extend the education support to these children also at the same time to stop the support for few children who completed the class X and eligible for higher studies. There are many scholarships available for girl children for higher studies.
The major activities organized for the children during the reporting period were:
The children from the supplementary education centre at Bellary celebrated the National Science day on 28th February 2019. The children actively involved and conducted a science exhibition imparting practical exposure to the theoretical learnings they have acquired. The day observance has brought upon the children an interest to study science subjects with more enthusiasm and comprehension of the subject without gender biases.
The children were educated and trained on environment conservation and eco clubs were formed where children learned to nurture earth and the natural resources. As part of the activity, the girl children also visited door to door in the village at Bellary on 28th Feb 2019 and conscientized the families on efficient waste management, waste segregation of dry and wet wastes, reducing the use of plastics etc.
The CREAM project initiated by BREADS train children on child rights and the advocacy actions to be initiated while the rights of the children are at risk. Thus children were created an awareness of their rights, the child protection mechanisms, POCSO Act 2012, JJA and prohibition of child marriage, child labour laws etc.
National Girl Child Day is celebrated on 24th January in India and as part of the observance, many activities, programs and public shows were organised at Gulbarga, Chitradurga, Yadgiri and Hospet. The programs organized were intended to promote the girl children and enhancement of their safety, security, physical, social, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of every girl child in families and community.

The children exhibited their talents and creativity by participate various programmes like dance, songs, skits, etc.
The children are regularly followed up by Don Bosco/BREADS staff in order to ensure their continuity in schools and improve education standard. One parents meetings was organized during the reporting period and request the parental support to assure the retention of the children in schools and monitor the study progress in the school.
