Dear Donors,

Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!

The new academic year was started from June 2018 onwards for the 144 poor girl children who are supporting from GlobalGiving. All the children were upgraded to higher classes and started the new education year with more enthusiasm and sprit. The children were provided with new dresses, uniforms books and other education materials from the project. In the month of June many programmes were conducted in different part of Don Bosco institutions where the sponsored children were also actively participated. The days observed with children’s rally, public meetings, signature campaign against child labour and trainings for the children. The children who getting education support from GlobalGiving platform are studying well, enjoying a successful life, and have grown in confidence. The children were provided with various programmes to enhance their life coping skill, nurturing the values of team spirit and improve the interpersonal relationship.

During this reporting period we received USD 584.91 from GlobalGiving for the project which was exclusively used for the education, food, clothes and education materials of the poor girl children. About 24 rescued child labourers have completed their remedial education from Don Bosco rehabilitation centres readmitted in formal schools and continuing their formal education.

The major activities organized for the children during the reporting period are:

  • World day against Child Labour: All the centre organized programmes to commemorate with world child labour day. The day was observed with awareness rally, public meeting and various cultural programmes of the students. The students supported under GlobalGiving were also actively participated in the programmes.
  • Independence Day was celebrated by all our Don Bosco Institutions where the children conducted various cultural programmes, flag hosting and exhibited their patriotism by singing and presentation of skits.
  • A campaign against child marriage was conducted by different Don Bosco projects where the our children participated in the Rally and promoted the value of girl child education. Strong and convinced the messages was given by social leaders and teachers for the importance of educating girl child and preventing early marriages of girls to the public gathering.

The children are regularly followed up by Don Bosco/BREADS staff in order to ensure their continuity in schools and improve education standard. One parents meetings was organized during the year and request the parental support to assure the retention of the children in schools and monitor the study progress in the school. The children were also motivated to join the evening tuition classes started in their villages by BREADS and use the facility to improve their education standard and do the school assignment with the help of mentors.

BREADS thankfully acknowledge the valuable support through GlobalGiving which helped the poor girl children to have a brighter future.
