By Fr. Joy Nedumparambil - Executive Director, BREADS, Bangalore
Dear Donors,
Greetings from BREADS Bangalore!
We are happy to state that 144 less privileged children are being continued their education with the support from you through GlobalGiving. The children have completed their examinations and are in summer holidays. These 144 girl children have completed one year of education without any stress on school fees, with beautiful and neat dresses, uniforms, with necessary books and other education materials. All these were realized only through generous assistance from the valuable donors through the platform of GlobalGiving the children supported by are the rescued child labourers and school dropouts. From March 2018 to May 2018 we have lots of programmes for the children in different Don Bosco Institutions for this summer holidays. The following are the programmes conducted during the reporting period
Making the best use of summer holidays:
In the month of April 2018 the summer camp was organized by Chithra Don Bosco, Chitradurga under the CREAM Project. The children from Molakalmuru, J.C. Halli, Ingaldal, Kalkuntte, Chitradurga (Bouvi colony and Cheladudda) were involved in the camp. Activities like personality development, sports, cultural events, spoken English classes, competitions etc were part of the summer camp schedule for improving the abilities and talents of the children.
Rallying to demand justice:
CREAM project, BOSCO, Bangalore, organized a rally from BOSCO Nilaya to Town Hall and joined the silent protest against child sexual abuse in collaboration with Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) on April 17, 2018. The main focus of the campaign was to demand justice for the victims of child abuse.
Justice for Asifa a solidarity campaign in Ramanagara:
The children from the supplementary education centers of Don Bosco Ajjnahalli, Ramanagara during the summer camp gathered together and organized the solidarity campaign in the wake of the Kathua rape and murder case. More than 150 children were gathered and rallied in silence with lighted candles, posters and placards seeking justice for the victim. The campaign aimed at speedy dispensation of justice to the victim, calling upon the government to ensure that the investigations are fast tracked and demanding stern actions against the culprits.
During this reporting period we received USD 524.00 from global giving for the project which was used for the education, food, clothes and education materials of the poor girl children.
The children are regularly followed up by Don Bosco/BREADS staff in order to ensure their continuity in schools and improve education standard. The children were motivated to join the vocation tuition classes started in their villages by BREADS and use the facility to improve their education standard and do the school vocational assignment with the help of mentors.
The support from the donors through GlobalGiving platform was helped 144 poor and marginalized girl children to continue their education and excel in their future life. If they were denied this opportunity they may end up with early marriage, child labour and illiterate. The children are happy and expressing gratitude to all the donors and well-wishers of GlobalGiving with great smile.
BREADS thankfully acknowledge the valuable support through GlobalGiving which helped the poor girl children to have a brighter future.
Thank you for all
