Provide Sight to 10,000 Blind Children in Pakistan

For a moment, imagine being a child and slowly losing the ability to see.

The faces of your parents become blurred. The blackboard at school disappears into darkness. You can no longer play with your friends, move around confidently, or imagine the future you once dreamed of. For a child living in poverty, blindness can mean losing not only sight, but also education, independence, confidence, and hope.

Fifteen-year-old Teekamdas from Sanghar, Sindh, was living that reality.

A Class 9 student and the eldest of six siblings, Teekamdas was the son of a hardworking farmer. He attended school every day and worked in the local market in the evenings to help support his family. But gradually, his world began to disappear. Cataracts developed in both his eyes, making it impossible for him to read the blackboard, keep up with his studies, work, or even recognise familiar faces. Unable to afford treatment, his family could only watch helplessly as their son withdrew from school, stopped playing with friends, and lost confidence in himself.

“I felt like I was losing my life before it had even started,” Teekamdas shared. “I couldn’t study, I couldn’t help, and I couldn’t even walk confidently.”

Hope arrived when a neighbour told his family about LRBT’s Primary Eye Care Center in Tando Adam. After examination and referral to LRBT Rashidabad Hospital, Teekamdas underwent successful cataract surgery in both eyes, completely free of charge.

When his vision returned, so did his future.

“The first thing I saw clearly was my father’s face, and then the board at school,” he said. “I could read again. I could see again. I felt alive again.”

Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) provides free eye care to more than 3.4 million people every year, including over 380,000 children, through its nationwide network of 20 hospitals, 64 clinics, and outreach camps across Pakistan.
