Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT) provides free eye care to more than 3.3 million people every year, including over 300,000 children, through its nationwide network of 20 hospitals, 64 clinics, and outreach camps across Pakistan. For children born into poverty, blindness is not just the loss of sight — it is the loss of childhood, education, confidence, and independence. Many visually impaired children are unable to attend school or participate in everyday life, while their families face emotional distress and financial hardship. Parents, often daily wage earners, lose valuable income caring for children suffering from preventable or treatable eye conditions.
Through this GlobalGiving project, LRBT aims to provide free sight-restoring surgeries and comprehensive eye care to 10,000 underprivileged children who would otherwise remain untreated due to poverty. The project covers screening, diagnosis, surgery, medicines, hospitalization, and follow-up care, ensuring that no child is turned away because their family cannot afford treatment. A simple cataract surgery costing just US$74 can permanently restore a child’s sight and completely transform their future.
Ayesha is only five months old. Instead of enjoying her early months like other babies, she began life struggling with vision problems. Her mother noticed that Ayesha was not responding to light or faces and spent many sleepless nights worrying about her daughter’s future. Despite the fear and uncertainty, she never lost hope. When Ayesha was brought to LRBT, doctors diagnosed her with cataract and retinal complications. It was a painful moment for the family, but also the beginning of hope. With timely treatment and specialized care, Ayesha’s journey toward better vision has now begun. Her mother still holds her close, but today there is relief and hope in her eyes.
Thousands of children across Pakistan face similar challenges, and most of these cases are preventable or curable when treated early. By supporting this project, donors can help children regain their sight, return to school, and live fuller, independent lives while easing the emotional and financial burden on their families. A small contribution can give a child not only the gift of sight, but the chance at a brighter future.
