Sarah’s Story
The journey to healthy feet is not always straightforward; at times, parents must help their children navigate an unsuccessful treatment before finding the best care. Sarah, who was born in 2010 with clubfoot affecting her left foot, was initially treated with kite casts for 11 months until she was able to be seen at a Ponseti clinic. Her clubfoot treatment has included helping her through relapse, but she’s well on her way to walking on healthy feet. Sarah’s mother describes their experiences during treatment, and her wishes for other families. She says, “My child started treatment for clubfoot when she was 7 days old. I went through a lot, and I would cry when my baby cried because of the casts. But then I accepted it, and started coming to the Ponseti clinic in April 2011. Later, I stopped attending the clinic due to some challenges I was facing, but I realised that my child was getting worse again. I want to urge all parents to always come with their children for treatment as requested. Though it can be difficult at times, parents need to stay strong for the sake of their children. I urge them not to despair - other people may laugh at you, but you must not lose hope.”
