Expansion to Bluefields

By Lauren Wall | Program Manager

Hospital in Bluefields
Hospital in Bluefields

Dr. Mario Sequeira, Ponseti trainer and miraclefeet partner, recently gave a Ponseti Method training in Bluefields, located on the Nicaragua Atlantic coast.  Doctors from the Trauma and Orthopedics Department, as well as the medical students, physical therapists, and nurses that will assist them in providing Ponseti treatment to patients at Hospital Ernesto Sequeira Blanco, miraclefeet’s newest partner in Nicaragua.  The practitioners at Hospital ESB are excited and motivated to be a part of the Ponseti movement in Nicaragua, making Ponseti Method the preferred treatment for clubfoot country-wide.  Bluefields is geographically divided from populous western-Nicaragua, where two miraclefeet partner-clinics are located, and the journey on land can take more than 10 hours.  Having treatment readily available in Bluefields supports the eastern and coastal communities.  Furthermore, Hospital ESB is a teaching hospital where residents and medical students will learn the method and use it in their future.  Over 20 children are expected to be treated with the Ponseti Method in Bluefields in the next 12 months.
