Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute has been conducting various programs for provision of free services to the vulnerable sections of community in Southern Rajasthan, India. Free Cataract screening camps form an integral and inseparable part of this. Cataract remains the leading cause of blindness and an important cause of visual impairment across the globe.
During the months of September, October and November 2017, 1475 patients have been screened through various camps. Out of theses,1040 patients were operated upon free of cost at the the base hospital. Major cost of these surgeries have been borne by the hospital itself.
During the screening programs, door to door surveys have also been conducted in remote rural villages. We have even identified field workers and trained them for basic eye screening for identification of cataract and other ailments in patients. Few major eye screening camps were also conducted in remote villages of Rajasthan.
Support from donors for such cataract surgeries will help us provide services to a large population of Southern Rajasthan where magnitude of blindness is quite high as compared to other parts of India.
