In fulfillment of its mission “Quality Vision to All”, Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute has been moving ahead day after day to achieve that. A series of free cataract screening camps have been organized in the region with a specific target on the most vulnerable population.
The last three months have witnessed another step towards inclusive eye care. 81 Free Eye Camps were organized in remote rural and tribal villages around Udaipur benefiting over 8000 eye patients for various eye ailments, majority of them being cataracts. A total of 1524 patients were operated upon for cataract
While creating awareness for eye care camps and community programs, our team has done extensive door to door screening as well. A personalized approach has been incorporated to enhance health seeking behavior amongst local villagers who otherwise are illiterate and avoid taking eye health as priority. Field workers have screened patients at their homes.
During one such camp, a little girl Sushmita Dindor, aged 5 ears was identified from a nearby Village Banswara who was suffering from nutritional deficiency cataract since her birth. As her parents were from a very low-income group, they could not afford to get her treatment done at any other private hospital. The girl and her parents were suffering in silence, until they come across our field workers during the last month. She was brought to the base hospital and operated for cataract totally free of cost in both eyes. And what a delight, Sushmita saw her parents for the first time after her birth.
