Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute has been providing free services for the economcally under privileged eye patients of regions in Southern Rajasthan, India. Cataract camps and services are being offered on a regular basis. These sight restoring surgeries are done for patients being brought to the base hospital ater an initial screening at the camp site in villages.
During the last months from October 2015 till February 2016, more than 5513 patients have been screened through various camps. Over 2400 patients were referred for surgery. Over 2200 surgeries have already been performed at the hospital, absolutely free of cost to the patients. Major cost of these surgeries have been borne by the hospital itself. There have been individual donors (from the same locality) for three such camps. Their contrubtion has partly supported 472 surgeries. Besides all the cost has been borne by Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute.
These surgeries have helped patients regain their lost confidence and are now able to leade better quality of life. Their dependency on other has decreased and sense of security has increased.
Support from more donors for such cataract surgeries will help us provide services to a large population of Southern Rajasthan where magnitude of blindness is quite high as compared to other parts of India.
