The months of October, November and December 2021 saw a steep rise in the patients requiring eye surgeries. Primarily because of the backlog of patients which got accumulated due to COVID restrictions and secondarily because of the usual seasonal demand in Rajasthan during winters.
Alakh Nayan Mandir's team was all geared up to cater to the increasing demands through the free camps and the free walk-ins at the base hospital. More than 3-4 camps were organized every week in the remote rural and tribal regions of Udaipur division and surrounding areas. A team of doctors and Optometrists along with Community Health Workers screened the patients in the camps and then the identified patients for surgery were transported to the base hospital for advanced cataract and other surgeries.
A total of 13,752 patients were examined for eye ailments. Out of which 1950 patients were operated. Of these, 909 patients were provided surgical interventions absolutely free of cost. These patients' transportation to and fro the hospital and village was also provided free of cost, besides various boarding and lodging facilities, pre and post-operative care & medicines and follow ups.
