Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute has been providing free services for the economically under privileged eye patients of regions in Southern Rajasthan, India. Cataract camps and services are being offered on a regular basis. These sight restoring surgeries are done for patients being brought to the base hospital after an initial screening at the camp site in villages.
During the last months from May 2018 till July 2018, more than 4900 patients have been screened through various camps. 1800 patients were referred for surgery. Over 1360 surgeries have been performed at the hospital, absolutely free of cost to the patients. Major cost of these surgeries have been borne by the hospital itself. These surgeries have helped patients regain their lost sight and are now able to lead better quality of life. Their dependency on others has reduced and sense of wellbeing has increased.
Support from more donors for such cataract surgeries will help us provide services to a large population of Southern Rajasthan where magnitude of blindness is quite high as compared to other parts of India.
