There's Nothing More Beautiful Than A Happy Child!

By Sharon Doherty | Project Leader

The new passenger van has had a profound impact on the lives of children who travel a significant distance to and from school. Previously, these young deaf students faced numerous challenges, including irregular public bus schedules, long and dusty walks to the bus stop from their homes, and the inability of family members to bring them by bus. Consequently, they frequently missed school, disrupting their education. However, the introduction of the new van has brought about a remarkable change.
Let's consider the story of Eric, an 11-year-old boy who is profoundly deaf and lives in a community far from San Miguel de Allende. Due to his parents' work commitments and therefore the absence of a person to bring him to school, Eric had been unable to attend EEESMA School for the Deaf for the past five years. This resulted in a significant gap in his education, particularly in his literacy skills. Fortunately, the addition of the new school van has transformed Eric's circumstances. He now travels to and from school every day alongside 12 other students residing between Dolores Hidalgo and San Miguel. Eric, along with his classmates, stands to benefit tremendously from this development, and the burden on their families has been significantly alleviated.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the generous individuals who have contributed to this initiative, enabling Eric and others to receive the education in Mexican Sign Language that they truly deserve. However, the ongoing operation of the van incurs costs such as the driver's salary, gasoline, insurance, and maintenance. To ensure the continuity of this vital program, we kindly request your continued support. Your contribution will have a tangible and invaluable impact on the lives of these children, making a lasting difference. Together, let us seize this opportunity to transform lives and provide these young individuals with the education they need to thrive.
