Generosity, voice of biodiversity in the DRC

DEAR DONORS,

We extend our warmest greetings and sincere thanks for your continued support of the Generosity, Voice of Biodiversity project in the DRC .

1) QUARTERLY SUMMARY (PERIOD COVERED: APRIL TO JUNE)

During the period from April to June , we continued the implementation of the Generosity, Voice of Biodiversity project in the DRC . Despite the absence of new donations recorded , the project continued to progress through coordination meetings , training activities and technical analyses aimed at improving the targeting of vulnerable areas, spaces and species using GIS (Geographic Information System) via the RESTOR application .

2) PROGRESS OF PROJECT ACTIVITIES

During the period covered, the following activities were carried out:

a)    Grouping and coordination meetings with local associations and leaders of indigenous communities , in order to exchange on field priorities and strengthen the alignment of planned actions.

b)    training of stakeholders involved in the protection of biodiversity and the identification/consideration of vulnerable areas and species.

c)     Analysis of vulnerable areas, spaces and species via GIS using the RESTOR application , in order to consolidate information and better guide the planning of future actions.

3) RESULTS OBTAINED DURING THE PERIOD

The following results were achieved:

a)    Strengthening community dialogue and better ownership of project priorities by local stakeholders.

b)    Improved targeting thanks to GIS analyses carried out via RESTOR, allowing for better identification of vulnerable areas and elements to be considered for the next steps.

c)     Continuity of activities despite the absence of new donations, in order to maintain momentum and preparation of the action plan.

4) INDICATORS

a)    3 meetings and training sessions organized:

a)    First week of April : Coordination meeting in North Ubangi Province

b)    Second week of April : Coordination meeting in the Central Kogno Mangrove

c)     Last week of May : coordination meeting (North Ubangui / Kogno Central according to field planning)

5) STATUS OF DONATIONS AND RESOURCE MOBILIZATION

During the period from April to June , no new donations were recorded. Nevertheless, we are continuing our fundraising efforts and mobilizing the attention of our partners to ensure the continuity of our activities and the implementation of the next phases as soon as resources become available.

6) CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED

a)    The absence of new funding during the period led to a shift in execution towards coordination, awareness-raising and technical preparation activities.

b)    Data consolidation is needed to ensure relevant targeting of vulnerable areas and species before the expanded implementation phase.

7) ACTIONS PLANNED FOR THE NEXT PERIOD

a)    Continue training (communities, local associations, local leaders), deployment of teams and equipment for environmental analysis and biodiversity monitoring, restoration and conservation activities, follow-up meetings and strengthen coordination with associations and community leaders.

b)    Finalize and further utilize GIS results to establish/clarify intervention priorities.

c)     Intensify resource mobilization to enable the transition to activities that require additional funding.

8) CONCLUSION

From April to June , the Generosity, Voice of Biodiversity in the DRC project (no. 71812) maintained its activities despite the absence of new donations: 3 coordination meetings , training activities , and analyses of vulnerable areas/spaces/species using GIS with RESTOR , particularly in the North Ubangi province and the Kogno Central mangrove . We remain committed to ensuring effective implementation as soon as additional resources become available.
