In the heart of Vaupés, where the rainforest breathes ancestral wisdom and the rivers tell millenary stories, the University Center of Mitú rises with dignity. Its classrooms, built with wood native to the Amazon territory, safeguard not only academic knowledge but also native languages, a deep respect for Mother Earth, and the dreams of hundreds of young people who long to pursue higher education.
In these facilities, shared with the Indigenous Normal School of Vaupés, 271 Indigenous youth are currently studying with the conviction that education is much more than knowledge: it is resistance, it is living memory, and it is the possibility of building a dignified future rooted in the strength of their heritage.
“For me, becoming a professional is important so I can support my Indigenous territory with the knowledge I gain.”
— Amado Macuve, Business Administration student
This project seeks to ensure access, retention, and successful graduation for Indigenous youth from the Colombian Amazon. Each donation helps cover tuition, materials, transportation, and meals—allowing these students to continue their education without leaving behind their communities or traditions.
In the long term, these young people will become professionals committed to the sustainable development of their territories, leading productive, social, and environmental initiatives that respect their worldview and strengthen their peoples.
Our goal is to raise $200,000 USD so that more Indigenous youth can access higher education in the most remote corners of Colombia. Today, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’ve taken the first step with $1,230 raised. Every contribution is a seed of hope that blooms in the territories, transforming lives and communities.
