Global Fund for Women strengthens gender justice movements with funding and resources to create meaningful change. Amid COVID-19, women are facing increased violence, restricted access to reproductive healthcare and rights, and a heightened care-giving burden. Through our partnership with CHIME FOR CHANGE this year, Global Fund for Women will focus support on women's funds in four different countries working to advance gender justice including by addressing these challenges.
Today, sexual and gender-based violence is increasing, including state-sanctioned violence under repressive governments, threats from fundamentalist forces, and intimate-partner violence. COVID-19 has made plain the structural inequalities built into our world, and we are already seeing a global surge in domestic violence, increases in sexual violence as an instrument of intimidation, and threats to women's rights organizations' infrastructure and digital security.
Global Fund for Women puts funds and resources directly into the hands of gender justice movements working to address the most critical issues affecting their communities. Through our Crisis Fund and our partnerships with four local women's funds, we will support gender justice organizations and movements directly responding to issues of health and violence in their communities in Mexico (Fondo Semillas), Hong Kong (HER Fund), Brazil (Fundo ELAS), the Mediterranean (The MedWF), and globally.
Global Fund for Women will strengthen the capacity of movements which are focused on advancing gender justice and ending gender based violence which is increasing during the global pandemic. We envision a world free from sexual and gender-based violence in all forms, and we know that when gender justice groups lead recovery, these moments can offer an opportunity to build a new, more equal, world.
