Dear Girls Education International Supporters!

We are excited to reach you with our first update for the #Empower100 Campaign. As you may know, we currently have girls education programs operating in Pakistan, Liberia, and Tanzania. We are hoping to expand each of those programs through this funding effort. Here are some of the ways we hope to do that:

In Pakistan, our partner at Bedari, a Pakistan-based NGO, recently traveled to three villages, to which we hope to extend support for girls education. The potential expansion into these villages will grow our support in Pakistan by 60 girls!

These villages are quite remote and vary in their levels of poverty and access to education. In one of the villages, most of the girls begin primary school, but for finanical reasons, they often have to stop. That's where we would like to offer support - and we'll need your help! In the other villages, the reasons girls don't attend school range from inadequate finances to transportation. In one of the villages, there is no primary school, so a portion of our support will go toward transporting the girls to and from school.

We are grateful to our on-the-ground partner, Safeer, for his diligence, efforts to visit each village, and thorough reporting on the situation in each village.

In Liberia, some of our girls will be graduating from high school which will open doors of opportunity for them to continue on to higher education or vocational education. And additionally, it will open spots in our program for new girls to join a secondary school cohort!

In Tanzania, our first group of girls begins school this coming January 2013. We are excited to hear about their first term and check in with them on our annual visit to the region this summer. As the word spread about the expansion of Girls Education International into Tanzania, many girls began to contact us. We know there are many more, beyond our original 30, who would like support to begin or continue their secondary education. This campaign will help us make that happen!

So, all in all - we have big goals and we can't reach them alone! Here are some ways you can support and promote the work that we, with the crucial support of our in-country partners do:

  1. Spread the word. Post links to our website and our Facebook page through your social media sites.
  2. Create your own fundraising campaign. GlobalGiving makes it easy! Just go to our project page, scroll down to the big Donate button - then click on the green fundraiser tab beneath. You can build your own page, tell your own story about why this matters to you and the world, and then share it personally. You can build it for a wedding, holiday, birthday, school campaign, sporting event and more!
  3. Donate. At the end of the day, money keeps these girls in school and as a volunteer-run organization, we have to keep making the 'ask'. So, whenever you have a little to spare, feel free to share.

Thank you so much for all of your support!
