Anti-Violence Clubs & Training for 1000 Leaders

• On October 27, 2012 our team had a general assembly and we concluded by deciding to go each cell and conduct meetings with people the committee family progress.
• On November 6, 2012, meetings happened in Mutara and Nyabibugu.
• On November 13, 2012, meetings happened in Kigarama and Gishweru. 

The aim of our meetings was to remind these committee members their roles in family progress, so that we can strengthen our collaboration in solving domestic violence.

Together with the committee and in collaboration with local leaders and the National Women's Council in our district, we made a list of families in conflict. In most cases, the cause of conflict in those families was based on family property management.

At the end we all decided to visit each family, and intervene in helping it to solve their conflicts.  

• In Gishweru:  there were 19 families in conflicts 
• In Mutara: there were 21 families in conflicts 
• In Nyabibugu: there were 15 families in conflicts
• In Kigarama: there were 7 families in conflicts

On November 14, 2012 the committee in charge of family progress had a meeting. They talked about how they can schedule days of visiting these families.

On December 9, 2012 our team Have Pity and Compassion had a monthly general meeting, where we evaluated the progress and impact of our activities in our community. We figured out that whatever was planned for November was done well, and we even introduced a new activity of reaching even more people who did not attend our trainings, as well as growing our partnership through directly working with the committee in charge of family progress, the National Women''s Council in our district and local leaders.

On December 10, 2012 we had a public discussion about fighting Gender Based Violence (GBV) on the sector level.

On December 10, 2012 in Kigarama and Gishweru and on December 19, 2012 in Mutara, and on December 26, 2012 in Nyabibugu we conducted public discussions in our cells where local people were invited. We talked about family law and the law of succession, and family management. People asked questions and together with local leaders at the sector level we answered them and explained what the law says about it.

On December 23, 2012 we organized a concert that had the theme of "Fighting Any Type of Domestic Violence in Order to Live in a Sector Without Violence” Among invitees there were police officers, executive secretaries of the sector and cells, school and religious leaders as well as our team members. We did a mobilization and advertisement through posting announcements and communicating them in churches. We showed a movie that is famous locally, and played teaching sketches and theaters that talk about fighting violence. As a result, there were so many people; we can estimate over 1200 people, and the majority was youth.

We received three women who were seeking advice from us. We also received three children and two men who were living in domestic violence and needed at least listening support.  Afterwards, we transferred them to local leaders in charge of solving such cases.

Challenges we’ve been meeting are that some people’s rights were abused by some leaders at the cell level. It was a big challenge for us to intervene as it was tending to create conflicts between us and these leaders. We decided to report the case to the executive leaders in charge of the sector.
