Displaced populations living in informal shelter settlements across Gaza’s Middle Area endure profound hardship, compounded by acute food scarcity and degraded living quarters. To protect vulnerable households from rain flooding and nutritional deficit, BESME INSANI launched a rapid relief initiative combining daily bread delivery with emergency shelter tarpaulins. This project targeted 180 severely impoverished displaced families (approximately 900 individuals) residing in densely populated tent clusters.
Our field teams procured available heavy-duty waterproof plastic tarpaulins ($4\times6\text{m}$) and distributed them directly to registered heads of households. These plastic covers allowed families to reinforce weather-damaged tent roofs, preventing severe interior water leaking and mitigating dampness-related respiratory illnesses among young children. Concurrently, the team delivered fresh bread bundles to ensure basic daily sustenance for each family.
Operations were carefully structured to navigate complex field dynamics and localized supply constraints. Field coordinators collaborated with trusted community representatives to verify recipient lists and organize time-slotted distribution points within the camps, maintaining order and preventing congestion. Special door-to-door delivery arrangements were made for families with restricted mobility.
The timely combination of fresh bread and waterproof plastic sheeting restores basic human dignity and provides immediate physical safety against harsh weather conditions. BESME INSANI extends its gratitude to humanitarian partners whose support makes these vital, life-saving emergency distributions possible inside the Gaza Strip.
