Pattaya, Thailand is a city, whose economy, is dependent upon tourism and with the fallout from covid 19 thousands have been left jobless, homeless and hungry. The Hand to Hand Foundation has been delivering 1000's of care package and meals to these people, however this is not a long term solution. Providing a job means not only an income but also self esteem and purpose.
We have continued to employ more people to make fabric masks which have 3 layers of different kinds of cloth. They are easily washable and dry quickly for reuse. So far we have distributed 7 500 masks for free to poor and disadvantaged people, publichospitals, human trafficking rescue centres and local government schools.
In addition to this we have begun a food growing program. We had 3 days of basic training and growers can come and use all of the resources including land, soil, water and seeds etc to grow fruit and vegetables. The growers are able to take the food for their families or sell it. So far we have grown mushrooms, papaya, spinach, water cress, muncow, basil and corriander. This project has been so successful that we are currently expanding it and employing some of the growers to run the projects. The future aim is to set up sustainable gardens in slum areas too.
