For displaced families in Munigi/Ngangi, North Kivu, finding clean water is not simply a daily task—it is a daily struggle for survival, safety, and dignity. Thousands of people who fled conflict are living without reliable access to safe drinking water. Women and children are often the ones carrying this burden, walking long distances to collect water from unsafe sources and sometimes making these journeys at night. Each trip can mean exposure to disease, exhaustion, and the risk of violence. Families who have already lost their homes and livelihoods should not have to risk their lives simply to find water.
Our “Bring Safe Water to Munigi’s Displaced Families” project seeks to change this reality by providing approximately 10,000 displaced people with a safe and reliable source of clean water. We plan to install a solar-powered deep-water borehole equipped with a hand pump, bringing water closer to the families who need it most. The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase, including the identification of trainers and community participants and the preparation of the next implementation steps. The total project budget is US$21,000. At the time of this report, we had raised US$0, but through our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we now have an important opportunity to reach a wider community of international donors and mobilize the resources needed to make this project possible.
For a mother who no longer has to send her daughter on a dangerous journey for water, for a child who can spend more time learning instead of searching for water, and for a family that can drink without fear of disease, this project can mean a profound change. Access to clean water can improve health and hygiene, reduce exposure to violence, restore valuable time, and create a stronger foundation for recovery and resilience. We are deeply grateful to GlobalGiving for helping us bring this urgent need to the attention of donors around the world, and we thank every person who chooses to stand with displaced families in North Kivu.
Today, we are calling on donors, foundations, organizations, and compassionate individuals to join us. Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to the US$21,000 needed to establish this vital water source. Together, we can help turn a long and dangerous search for water into a safe journey home. Together, we can help families affected by conflict recover not only their health, but also their dignity, hope, and confidence in the future. Please stand with Munigi’s displaced families and help us bring safe water within their reach.
