Escalating violence in Goma has deepened the humanitarian crisis, displacing over 500,000 people in January alone. Women and vulnerable groups face severe risks, including sexual violence, insecurity, and lack of basic services. Aid efforts are hindered by ongoing conflict and a mass prison break. Protests in Kinshasa turned violent, targeting embassies and worsening shortages. Without urgent intervention, civilians will continue to suffer amid growing displacement and insecurity.
Immediate priorities: Communication support for family contact and well-being monitoring. Distribution of medicines, food, and hygiene kits. Psychosocial care for affected women. Medical support, including for pregnancy loss. Urgent care for vulnerable infants. Evacuation efforts for FFC staff and activists. Additional needs: Emergency shelter. Safe spaces for SGBV survivors. Reactivation of a toll-free abuse report line. Securing staff homes and financial aid for families in Goma and Burundi.
