Fun and games at the HTDC orphanage in Haiti

Vegetables are awesome!
Vegetables are awesome!

Thanks to your incredible generosity the children at the HTDC orphanage have been enjoying themselves recently.

With the help of your generous donations the rent’s been paid for the year, and the kids are all eating nutritious meals and doing well in school. So, while longer-term funding is still needed, the Orphanage Director Carlo has been able to organise some fun activities and celebrate some special days with the kids. Carlo explained as follows:

For Easter the kids had a great weekend and we organized two nice dinner for the kids, they enjoyed a vacation from school and eating all the Easter food and saying prayers .

We also start playing more sport and games with the older kids two days a week. We hire a new teacher to do the sport with them, all the kids enjoy it and ask for more days per week. I will try to get some sneakers as donations and some other materials for the kids to do more sports.

On May 1 we also have a little party to celebrate Agriculture day in Haiti. The teacher explained to them why they should protect their environment and plant more trees and protect the trees we have. We had the kids plant some vegetables and we cooked and ate some vegetables and fruits together.”

This all sounded like loads of fun and we asked some of the kids what they thought.

Fourteen year old Wisly said:

would like to do sports every day because it’s very fun with the new teacher - he teaches us many other games that I did not know!”

On the other hand, seventeen year old Jean Wikenson seemed to prefer all the food!:

I like Easter time and Agriculture day because we have so much variety of food with salads and meat. These special foods, they always delicious”.

Finally, ten year old Florentina loved all the activities:

I liked the food and enjoyed the time off school watching Christian movies. I like the sports time too, I always get ready before the other kids!”

It’s great to hear how much fun the kids are having, and without the financial security you help provide none of this would be possible. Thanks so much as always.

If you ever have any questions about the orphanage and how we use your donations, please don’t hesitate to email Andy@IDVolunteers.org. I would be delighted to hear from you.
