Over the last six months, Fuel Relief Fund has been hard at work helping those affected by disasters both on our doorstep and on the other side of the globe. Here's what we've been up to:
In December, longtime FRF volunteer and board member Joe Lee traveled to Kentucky to assist in the recovery efforts following a devastating tornado. The historic tornado - which struck southwest Kentucky on the evening of Friday, December 10th - caused widespread destruction across more than half a dozen counties, leaving more than 60,000 homes and businesses without power. As temperatures dropped, fuel became a critical resource for those relying on generators to stay warm. From December 17th to December 20th, Joe was in Mayfield, KY - one of the hardest-hit communities in the state - distributing free fuel to survivors on behalf of Fuel Relief Fund.
Over the course of the deployment, Joe traveled from neighborhood to neighborhood with two 100 gallon fuel bladders and an electric pump in tow. Joe and his team went to door to door, distributing fuel and teaching residents how to set up and use their generators. In total, FRF distributed 1,493 gallons of fuel to 298 households - benefitting over 1,000 disaster survivors.
As international tensions flared in the new year, FRF shifted its focus to fuel crises abroad. In early March, FRF Founder and Chairman Ted Honcharik deployed to Poland to assist the World Food Programme with the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. While there, he met with representatives from a variety of UN agencies and international NGOs, conducting preliminary fuel assessments and helping to coordinate fuel procurement and distribution efforts for our humanitarian partners on the ground.
FRF is continuing to assist with relief efforts in Ukraine by conducting needs assessments and developing distribution strategies alongside our humanitarian partners. Stay tuned for further updates from the field.
As always, we thank you for your continued support.
