GlobalGiving project rrogress report
Reporting period: Twelve-month project progress report (January–December 2025/2026)
Executive summary
A healthy child learns better.
For many kids at Bright Futures Preparatory Nursery and primary school, this place is more than just a school; it’s a safe haven and often their only chance to get a decent meal during the day.
Unfortunately, a lot of these students come from very vulnerable families, often led by single mothers, elderly grandparents, or even older siblings looking after younger ones. Many of them show up to school hungry, with little access to nutritious food at home or in the school itself.
To tackle this issue, Mafabi Apostolic Ministries International (MAMI) kicked off the Fruit Trees for 300 thriving children project through the GlobalGiving platform. This initiative aims to create a school fruit orchard that will not only provide healthy fruits but also offer shade, enhance the school environment, and promote environmental stewardship among the children.
This report outlines the progress made during the reporting period, the impact achieved despite limited resources, and the pressing need for ongoing support.
Background
Schools are more than just places for academic learning; they are environments where children develop physically, emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
Fruit trees are essential for fostering healthy and sustainable school environments. They provide nutritious food, improve air quality, lower temperatures, prevent soil erosion, and enhance biodiversity.
For children in vulnerable situations, having access to fresh fruits can greatly boost their nutrition, focus, immunity, and overall wellbeing. Moreover, getting students involved in tree planting helps instill a sense of environmental responsibility and prepares them to be future guardians of nature.
This project was designed to merge child nutrition, environmental conservation, and climate resilience into one sustainable solution.
Project Goal
Aiming to raise USD 4,913 to:
• Set up a school fruit orchard.
• Boost nutrition for 300 vulnerable learners.
• Encourage environmental conservation.
• Create shaded outdoor learning spaces.
• Enhance biodiversity in our school environment.
• Strengthen hands-on environmental education.
• Improve the health and wellbeing of children.
Fundraising Progress
We kicked off this project on the GlobalGiving platform with a goal of USD 4,913.
Current Status
• Project target: USD 4,913
• Funds raised: USD 1
• Funding gap: USD 4,912
• Fundraising progress: About 0.02%
While the financial response has been on the lower side, we truly appreciate every donor, friend, family member, and supporter who has stepped up for this vital cause. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings hope to vulnerable children and shows our collective commitment to making their futures brighter.
Project implementation
Since we only raised USD 1 during this reporting period, we haven’t been able to start the fruit orchard just yet. To ensure we’re accountable and make the most of every dollar received, we’ve invested the available funds into environmental education and awareness activities within the school community.
These funds helped create awareness and sensitization materials for our school-based environmental education sessions, which covered:
• The importance of planting fruit trees.
• Environmental conservation.
• Climate change awareness.
• Tree care and maintenance.
• The benefits of fruit trees for children and schools.
• Community responsibility in protecting the environment.
Teachers, learners, and support staff all got involved in these awareness activities. Although our progress has been modest, these efforts have laid a crucial foundation for future project implementation, preparing the school community to care for the fruit trees once we secure more resources.
Impact achieved
Despite facing significant funding challenges, we’ve made some remarkable strides. The project has successfully:
• Raised environmental awareness among both students and teachers.
• Fostered a deeper appreciation for tree planting within the school community.
• Enhanced understanding of the nutritional benefits of fruit trees.
• Promoted positive attitudes towards caring for the environment.
• Sparked excitement about creating a future school fruit orchard.
The awareness sessions have inspired kids to envision themselves as future environmental champions, ready to protect their school and community.
Challenges
The biggest hurdle we face is still the lack of funding. With just USD 1 raised out of a target of USD 4,913, we haven’t yet been able to:
• Buy fruit tree seedlings.
• Prepare the planting sites.
• Set up irrigation systems.
• Install protective fencing.
• Acquire gardening tools.
• Carry out large-scale tree planting.
• Maintain the orchard as planned.
In the meantime, many children are attending school without access to the nutritious fruits that could significantly boost their health and learning.
Why this project matters
Planting a fruit tree is a long-term investment that keeps on giving for years to come. A single tree can:
• Provide healthy fruits for generations of children.
• Enhance children’s health and nutrition.
• Create cool, shaded spaces for learning.
• Improve air quality.
• Restore damaged environments.
• Boost biodiversity.
• Reduce soil erosion.
• Foster climate resilience.
• Strengthen environmental education.
For vulnerable children, a fruit tree symbolizes more than just a tree; it stands for nourishment, hope, health, and opportunity.
Call to action
Today, we warmly invite the GlobalGiving community, development partners, philanthropists, corporations, friends, and kind-hearted individuals from all over the globe to help turn this vision into a reality. We urgently need an additional USD 4,912 to complete this project. Your support will make a real difference!
• Let’s plant a variety of fruit trees all around the school.
• Help improve nutrition for 300 children in need.
• Create shaded outdoor spaces for learning.
• Enhance environmental education.
• Revive damaged landscapes.
• Build resilience against climate change.
• Set up a sustainable source of nutritious fruits for generations to come.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps us plant seeds of hope for children and brings lasting benefits to the environment.
Looking ahead
As we gear up for the next phase of implementation (July–December 2026), MAMI is fully dedicated to gathering resources and building partnerships to bring our vision of a school fruit orchard to life.
With your ongoing support, we’re confident this project can serve as a shining example of how to blend nutrition, education, and environmental care in rural schools. Together, we can ensure that every child learns in a greener, healthier, and more inspiring setting.
Conclusion
The first phase of this initiative has shown us that real change starts with small acts of kindness. While we’ve only raised USD 1 so far, that contribution has allowed us to kick off education for students, teachers, and the broader school community about the significance of fruit trees and environmental stewardship.
We are incredibly thankful to every donor whose kindness has helped us move this dream forward. Yet, there’s still so much more to accomplish. Each fruit tree we plant today will nourish children tomorrow. Each orchard we create will sustain future generations.
Every contribution brings us closer to building a school where children not only learn but truly thrive. Together, we can do more than just plant trees. We can cultivate healthier futures, stronger communities, and lasting hope for every child in need.
