Summary

This project will help save more than 50,000 lives across 27 countries by sustaining Insulin for Life USA's work at the intersection of health equity, environmental sustainability, and humanitarian and disaster response. We collect donated insulin and diabetes supplies and deliver them, free of charge, to partner clinics serving people who would otherwise die without treatment. Instead of ending up in landfills, these vital materials save lives while reducing medical waste.

Challenge

We address a persistent, often overlooked crisis: lack of access to life-sustaining insulin and diabetes supplies for vulnerable people worldwide. In low-resource countries and underserved U.S. communities, many face life-threatening barriers simply because they cannot afford or access care. Without consistent insulin and basic tools, preventable complications and deaths become inevitable-making this both a public health emergency and a profound social injustice.

Solution

Insulin for Life USA has built a high-impact model that turns surplus into survival. We collect donated unopened, unexpired insulin and diabetes supplies that would otherwise be discarded and redistribute them through vetted providers in 27+ countries and U.S. clinics. This system delivers life-saving care to tens of thousands each year while reducing medical waste. During disasters and crises, we mobilize rapidly to ensure uninterrupted access to insulin when even brief gaps can be deadly.

Long-Term Impact

This project creates a sustainable, scalable system advancing global health equity and environmental responsibility. Rather than one-time aid, IFL USA continuously transforms surplus into survival. Since 2012, it has redistributed 277,664+ lbs of diabetes supplies to 57,650+ people worldwide. Over time, it strengthens local healthcare systems, prevents costly avoidable health complications, and embeds sustainability to save lives and reduce waste.
