Summary

Soccer is more than a sport; it is a universal language. Yet blind women in Mexico have had limited opportunities to play and compete. Today, over 40 blind women footballers from five states train weekly and are on the verge of a historic milestone: forming Mexico's first Women's National Blind Soccer Team and competing in Copa America in September 2026. This project will raise USD 60,000 to cover travel, equipment, training, and uniforms, making their participation in Brazil possible.

Challenge

Soccer is a universal language, yet blind women have historically been excluded from the sport. While men's blind soccer has been officially recognized since 2004, women only gained access in 2019. Today, women's blind soccer receives far less visibility, support, and funding, and only three women's national teams exist across the Americas: Brazil, Argentina, and Canada.

Solution

More than 40 blind women soccer players from Mexico City, Puebla, Jalisco, Tlaxcala, and Baja California train every week and are ready to form Mexico's first Women's National Blind Soccer Team. This project will raise USD 60,000 to cover flights, uniforms, equipment, training, preparatory meetings, and travel expenses, enabling them to compete in Copa America 2026 in Brazil.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help Mexico establish its first Women's National Blind Soccer Team and claim a place in the history of the sport. By increasing visibility for blind women athletes and demonstrating what is possible when barriers are removed, it can help create greater recognition, support, and opportunities for future generations of women in blind soccer across Mexico.
