From Crisis to Courage

By Riste Zenebe | Finance Manager

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Warm greetings from Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project, “From Crisis to Courage (#71292)”. This initiative is dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and resilience among vulnerable individuals and families affected by crisis situations, including poverty, gender-based violence, and social exclusion in Ethiopia.

At a time when many communities face deep economic and social challenges, this project continues to provide critical support—empowering beneficiaries to rebuild their lives, regain confidence, and transition from vulnerability to self-reliance.

Project Overview

Over the past quarter, our focus has been on providing psychosocial support, economic empowerment opportunities, and protection services to individuals affected by crisis situations.

Our mission is clear:
to transform lives from crisis to courage by restoring dignity, building resilience, and creating sustainable opportunities for vulnerable populations.

Progress So Far (December 2025 – February 2026)

The project has been implemented in Addis Ababa and surrounding communities, reaching:

  • Women affected by gender-based violence
  • Economically vulnerable households

Early Impact & Stories of Change

From Crisis to Confidence – Addis Ababa
Selam, a survivor of gender-based violence, received psychosocial support and skills training through the project. Today, she runs a small tailoring business and earns a stable income. She shared:
"I thought my life was over, but now I see a future full of hope."

Restored Dignity – Women in Transition
Women who once depended entirely on external support are now generating income and making independent decisions.

Stronger Communities – Collective Change
Communities are becoming more aware, supportive, and proactive in protecting vulnerable individuals and promoting inclusion.

Challenges Encountered

During implementation, we faced several challenges:

  • Increasing number of individuals needing support
  • Limited resources to meet high demand
  • Economic instability affecting income-generating activities
  • Social stigma affecting reintegration efforts

Despite these challenges, strong community engagement and integrated support systems have enabled continued progress.

What’s Next? (March – May 2026)

In the coming months, FUGAO plans to:

  • Expand psychosocial support services to reach more beneficiaries
  • Provide livelihood support to 120 additional individuals
  • Strengthen vocational and entrepreneurship training programs
  • Enhance community awareness campaigns
  • Develop peer support and survivor networks
  • Increase partnerships for sustainable impact

Sustainability & Long-Term Vision

This project promotes long-term impact by:

  • Building resilience and self-reliance among beneficiaries
  • Strengthening community-based protection systems
  • Encouraging income generation and economic independence
  • Promoting social inclusion and dignity
  • Supporting long-term recovery and reintegration

By 2030, FUGAO aims to support thousands of vulnerable individuals across Ethiopia to transition from crisis to sustainable livelihoods.

Monitoring & Evaluation

To ensure transparency and impact, we use:

  • Beneficiary tracking and follow-up systems
  • Training and participation records

  • Community feedback mechanisms
  • Regular field monitoring visits
