Project Report on “From Crisis to Courage” (#71292)

Submitted to the GlobalGiving Community
December 07, 2025

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Three months ago, Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO) continued its mission of restoring hope and resilience through our project “From Crisis to Courage”, an initiative dedicated to supporting conflict-affected women, children, and families across Ethiopia. This project is designed to respond to urgent crises while empowering communities with the tools they need to rebuild with strength, dignity, and long-term stability.

Rooted in compassion and community-driven solutions, “From Crisis to Courage” is transforming despair into hope—one family, one household, and one community at a time.

How Our Project Has Progressed So Far

Since our last reporting period, FUGAO has expanded its humanitarian and recovery support across Afar, Amhara, Oromia, and Southern Ethiopia, reaching communities deeply affected by conflict, displacement, and economic hardship. Our work has focused on emergency relief, psychosocial support, livelihood restoration, and community resilience.

Through strong community partnerships and the tireless efforts of our field teams, we have made significant strides in bringing healing and hope to thousands.

Achievements from September – December 2025

Humanitarian Relief & Protection

ü   5,200 displaced individuals received emergency food packages, including wheat flour, oil, and protein supplements.

ü   2,700 women and girls received dignity kits, including sanitary products, hygiene supplies, and undergarments.

ü   Established 4 Child-Friendly Safe Spaces, providing protection, trauma support, learning activities, and play for 1,100 children.

Psychosocial Support & Trauma Healing

ü  Provided trauma counseling for 850 women, including survivors of violence and loss.

ü  Trained 40 community counselors to identify trauma, offer support, and refer individuals to services.

ü  Conducted 12 healing group circles, helping women rebuild confidence, identity, and emotional strength.

Livelihood and Recovery Support

ü  Launched Women’s Resilience Groups in 7 districts, fostering peer support and collective financial saving.

ü  Distributed startup kits (sewing machines, small trade supplies, vegetable seeds) to 310 women to begin micro-business activities.

ü  Conducted business management training for 480 women and youth to help them restore income and self-reliance.

Early Results & Stories of Courage

A Mother Rebuilding Hope in Afar

Fatuma, a 29-year-old mother of two, fled her home due to conflict. Through this project, she received a small-business startup kit and counseling.
She shared:
“For the first time in years, I feel strong again. I am earning income and providing for my children. Your support brought me back to life.”

Young Girls Finding Their Voices

In our Child-Friendly Safe Spaces, girls who once feared returning to school are now engaging in play, reading, and mentorship activities. Parents report improved emotional well-being and confidence.

Communities Standing Together

Women's Resilience Groups in Southern Ethiopia have formed savings circles, enabling members to access small loans, rebuild income, and offer emotional support to each other. These groups have become pillars of courage in their communities.

Challenges We Encountered

Despite the positive progress, the project faced some difficulties:

ü  Conflict and insecurity in some districts caused delays in distributing relief supplies.

ü  Inflation and rising transport costs increased operational expenses.

ü  Limited access to psychosocial resources created challenges in providing long-term therapeutic care.

ü  Water scarcity in Afar and parts of Amhara placed additional burdens on households.

However, our teams and community partners remained resilient, adapting plans and ensuring families continued to receive life-saving support.

What’s Next? (Jan – March 2026)

NODRO plans to expand and strengthen the project through:

ü  Providing emergency relief to 3,000 more displaced families

ü  Launching Mobile Counseling Units for remote and hard-to-reach areas

ü  Training 100 youth in vocational skills (tailoring, metalwork, and food processing)

ü  Expanding Child-Friendly Safe Spaces to 3 additional locations

ü  Strengthening Women’s Resilience Groups with financial literacy and savings kits

ü  Conducting EMDR-based trauma sessions through trained psychotherapists

Sustainability and Long-Term Vision

“From Crisis to Courage” is designed not only to meet urgent needs but also to build long-lasting resilience. Our approach focuses on:

ü  Empowering women and youth with marketable skills

ü  Strengthening community support systems

ü  Promoting emotional healing and trauma recovery

ü  Establishing income-generating cooperatives

ü  Building trusted partnerships with local institutions

By 2030, our vision is to support 50,000 crisis-affected families, enabling them to rebuild stronger, safer, and more hopeful futures.

Why This Project Matters

Conflict, displacement, and trauma continue to impact millions in Ethiopia. Families lose homes, livelihoods, and loved ones—and women and children bear the greatest burden.
This project offers:

ü  safety in times of danger

ü  healing in times of grief

ü  strength in times of fear

ü  opportunity in times of hopelessness

Every contribution matters:

ü  $25 provides dignity kits for 3 women

ü  $50 supports trauma counseling for a survivor

ü  $150 equips a youth with vocational training tools

ü  $500 establishes a Child-Friendly Safe Space

ü  $5,000 launches a full Women’s Resilience Group in a conflict-affected district

Your generosity turns crisis into courage.
