Since the calendars changed over to 2024 Fresh Start and the Richard P. Garmany Fresh Start Academy have been busy. We celebrated our first graduating class of 2024 in mid January and a new cohort is starting on March 11th. The newest cohort will be gaining skills in framing, drywall, wall repairs along with a smaller carpentry project. Developing these skills will help set up our graduates for a variety of opportunties in the community with employment.
A recent graduate of the academy shared this quote about her experience during the program. Erica, prides herself on being a strong leader who cares deeply about her community. She says that the Richard P. Garmany Fresh Start Academy has given her “the opportunity to learn a trade with skills I can use for a lifetime.” Now that she has completed the certification, she sees herself employed and rebuilding her community, one structure at a time. When asked if she would recommend the program to others in search of job training, she was emphatic: “Go for it. Today could be the beginning of your ‘fresh start’.”
We look forward to meeting our new students next week and continuing to develop the academy in 2024. Our new brochure is attached to learn more about the program, the intructors and the talented students.
