Executive Summary
This report summarizes the successful implementation of the "Freedom on Wheels" project, executed in two segments in Thari Mirwah, Khairpur, Sindh. Through the generous support of our GlobalGiving donors,Sindh Govt,Local Peoples/ we distributed 165 mobility aids, including wheelchairs, tricycles, walking sticks, walkers, and white canes. This initiative directly restored dignity, independence, and access to community life for 165 individuals with disabilities and elderly citizens, impacting an estimated 1,000+ family members and caregivers.
2. Project Activities & Implementation
The project was designed to address the critical need for mobility aids in the rural, underserved community of Thari Mirwah. Distribution was conducted in two phases to ensure thorough beneficiary identification, fitting, and training.
Phase 1:Held on September 15, 2025. An initial distribution and assessment day where we provided the first batch of aids and identified further recipients.
Phase 2: Held on November 30, 2025. The main distribution event, where the majority of aids were handed over, completing the project cycle.
A meticulous process was followed:
Needs Assessment:Community leaders and local health workers helped identify the most vulnerable and needy beneficiaries.
Beneficiary Verification:Team visits ensured aids were matched to specific physical needs and environmental requirements (e.g., rough terrain tricycles).
Distribution & Training: On both event days, beneficiaries and their families received hands-on training on the safe use and basic maintenance of their equipment.
Documentation:Photographs and videos were captured (attached separately) documenting the entire process, from logistics to the heartfelt moments of receipt.
3. Deliverables & Impact Achieved
We successfully distributed all targeted mobility aids:
| Mobility Aid | Quantity Distributed | Primary Beneficiaries |
| Wheelchairs | 60 | Individuals with significant mobility impairments, paralysis, and elderly with limited strength.
| Tricycles | 50 | Adults and children with lower-limb disabilities, enabling self-propulsion over longer distances.
| Walking Sticks | 25 | Elderly and those with balance issues or minor injuries.
| Walkers | 20 | Individuals requiring significant stability support while walking.
| White Canes (Blind Sticks) | 10 | Visually impaired individuals, enhancing their safety and navigation.
| TOTAL| 165| 165 Direct Beneficiaries
Measurable Impact:
165 individuals gained immediate, life-changing mobility.
Estimated 1,000+ family members experienced reduced care burden and improved household economic potential.
Increased access to healthcare, education, and social gatherings for beneficiaries.
Raised community awareness about inclusion and the capabilities of persons with disabilities.
5. Challenges & Lessons Learned Terrain: The rural landscape of Thari Mirwah requires sturdy, all-terrain equipment. Future projects will prioritize this specification.
Ongoing Need:The distribution events revealed an even greater unmet demand than initially assessed, highlighting the profound need in rural Sindh.
Community Engagement: Involving local leaders was crucial for trust and effective targeting. This will be a cornerstone of future work.
6. Future Plans & Sustainability
The overwhelming need witnessed during this project compels us to act further. We are actively planning to expand the "Freedom on Wheels" initiative to various other rural areas of Tharparkar, Umerkot, and interior Khairpur as soon as possible. We aim to secure additional funding and partnerships to provide hundreds more mobility aids to those waiting for a chance at independent movement.
7. Acknowledgments
We extend our deepest gratitude to our GlobalGiving donors. Your compassion funded not just equipment, but transformation. Thank you for being the driving force behind this journey towards independence and dignity. We also thank our local volunteers and community partners in Thari Mirwah for their invaluable support.
8. Conclusion
The "Freedom on Wheels" project has successfully delivered critical mobility and hope to 165 individuals in Thari Mirwah. Each wheelchair, tricycle, and cane represents a step towards inclusion, autonomy, and a better quality of life. We are committed to continuing this vital work and will keep our supporters updated on our next phases of distribution.
