Project Report | Sep 6, 2026
One Child, One Tree: Growing a Greener Future

By Md. Anisur Rahman | Project Coordinator

The Green Fund Initiative (GFI), in partnership with the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation and Social Services Centre (BCSSC), continues its commitment to promoting environmental awareness and tree planting among schoolchildren in rural Bangladesh.

During this reporting period, the project was renamed from “100k Free Seedlings to School Children” to “One Child, One Tree: Growing a Greener Future.” The new name reflects our renewed focus on encouraging each participating child to plant and care for at least one tree and to become an active steward of the environment.

Progress During the Reporting Period

Unfortunately, no new funding or donations were received during this reporting period. As a result, we were unable to undertake the planned large-scale procurement and distribution of tree seedlings to schoolchildren.

Despite these financial constraints, we maintained limited engagement with previously contacted schools, local stakeholders, and volunteers. Informal awareness efforts related to tree planting, environmental protection, and climate resilience continued where possible. Existing school contacts, implementation plans, and project preparations have also been maintained so that activities can resume quickly when funding becomes available.

The lack of funding has significantly slowed project implementation and reduced volunteer and stakeholder momentum. However, interest in the project remains, and participating schools have expressed willingness to engage when seedlings and resources become available.

Challenges

The primary challenge remains the lack of financial resources. Without funding, we have been unable to purchase seedlings, arrange transportation, conduct school-based awareness sessions at the planned scale, or expand outreach to additional schools.

Next Steps

Our immediate priority is to strengthen fundraising and identify new donors, foundations, CSR programs, and institutional partners. Once funding is secured, we plan to re-engage schools, procure suitable seedlings, distribute them to children, conduct environmental awareness sessions, and establish simple monitoring to track tree planting and survival.

Conclusion

Although there was limited implementation during January–April 2026 due to the absence of funding, GFI and BCSSC remain committed to the project. The new “One Child, One Tree: Growing a Greener Future” approach provides a clear and meaningful vision for engaging children in environmental action. With renewed financial support, we hope to restart activities and reach more schoolchildren across rural Bangladesh, helping them grow a greener and more climate-resilient future.
