Project Title: Free Seedlings for Schoolchildren
Reporting Period: September – December 2025
1. Project Overview
The Green Fund Initiative (GFI) continues its commitment to promoting environmental stewardship through grassroots action. In Bangladesh, GFI, in partnership with the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation and Social Services Centre (BCSSC), is implementing the Free Seedlings for Schoolchildren project. The initiative seeks to foster environmental awareness among rural schoolchildren by encouraging tree planting and nurturing practices that support biodiversity conservation and long-term climate resilience.
2. Project Objectives
The key objectives of the project are to:
Provide free tree seedlings to schoolchildren in rural Bangladesh
Promote environmental awareness and responsibility among students
Contribute to ecosystem restoration and climate resilience through tree planting
3. Progress During the Reporting Period (September – December 2025)3.1 Fund Status
During this reporting period, no funds were raised for the project. As a result, financial resources were unavailable to support seedling procurement, transportation, or large-scale implementation activities.
3.2 Activities
Despite the absence of funding, GFI and BCSSC continued limited engagement efforts to maintain project continuity:
Stakeholder Communication: Maintained contact with previously engaged schools and teachers to sustain interest and commitment.
Volunteer-Led Awareness: Continued informal discussions and awareness efforts led by local volunteers on the importance of tree planting and biodiversity protection.
Implementation Readiness: Kept project plans, priority school lists, and implementation strategies updated in anticipation of future funding.
3.3 Impact
Sustained Awareness: Environmental education remained present within school communities despite the lack of material support.
Community Commitment: Schools and teachers reaffirmed their willingness to participate once seedlings become available.
Volunteer Engagement: Local volunteers played a vital role in keeping environmental issues visible among students.
4. Challenges
Lack of Funding: No funds were secured during this period, preventing any seedling distribution.
Operational Constraints: Activities were limited to non-financial, volunteer-supported efforts.
Unmet Demand: Continued interest from schools highlights a widening gap between community demand and available resources.
5. Next Steps
Intensify fundraising efforts targeting individual donors, CSR programs, and philanthropic organizations
Seek strategic partnerships to support seedling procurement and logistics
Finalize implementation and procurement plans to enable rapid rollout once funding is secured
6. Conclusion
From September to December 2025, the Free Seedlings for Schoolchildren project experienced a complete lack of funding, which halted all seedling distribution activities. However, continued volunteer engagement and strong interest from schools demonstrate the project’s ongoing relevance and potential impact. With adequate financial support, the initiative is well-positioned to resume implementation and contribute meaningfully to environmental education and biodiversity conservation in rural Bangladesh.
