1. Project Overview
The Green Fund Initiative (GFI) remains committed to fostering environmental stewardship by supporting grassroots actions worldwide. In Bangladesh, GFI, in partnership with the Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation and Social Services Centre (BCSSC), is implementing the Free Seedlings for Schoolchildren project. The initiative aims to promote environmental awareness among rural schoolchildren by encouraging them to plant and nurture trees, thereby cultivating a lifelong respect for nature and strengthening local biodiversity conservation.
2. Objective
The core objective of this project is to:
Provide free seedlings to schoolchildren in rural Bangladesh.
Instill environmental responsibility and awareness among students.
Contribute to long-term ecosystem restoration and climate resilience through tree planting.
3. Progress During the Reporting Period (May – August 2025)3.1 Fund Status
During this reporting period, GFI managed to raise only $10, which is insufficient to support meaningful seedling distribution or project expansion.
The project urgently requires additional financial resources to cover procurement, transportation, and awareness activities in schools.
3.2 Activities
Despite severe financial limitations, GFI and BCSSC took small but important steps to sustain project momentum:
Community Engagement: Maintained communication with teachers and schools previously involved in the project to keep interest alive.
Awareness Sessions: Conducted two low-cost awareness sessions at local schools with the help of volunteers, emphasizing the importance of tree planting and biodiversity conservation.
Planning for Expansion: Updated the list of priority schools and students to be engaged once sufficient funds are secured.
3.3 Impact
Sustained Visibility: Even with minimal resources, the project kept environmental education active within the school communities.
Volunteer Support: Local volunteers contributed time and effort, ensuring that environmental awareness remained a discussion topic among children and teachers.
Community Readiness: Schools have reaffirmed their commitment to participate actively once seedlings become available again.
4. Challenges
Funding Constraints: With only $10 raised during this reporting period, no large-scale seedling distribution was possible.
Resource Limitations: The lack of financial support restricted activities to volunteer-led awareness only.
Unmet Demand: Many schools and students continue to request participation, highlighting a growing gap between community enthusiasm and available resources.
5. Next Steps
Actively intensify fundraising efforts to secure adequate funds for large-scale seedling distribution.
Explore partnerships with donors, private sector CSR programs, and philanthropic organizations.
Prepare logistics and procurement plans so that once funding is secured, implementation can begin immediately.
6. Conclusion
From May–August 2025, the 100k Free Seedlings to Schoolchildren project faced severe funding shortages, managing to raise only $10. This amount was insufficient to deliver seedlings but allowed for limited volunteer-driven awareness activities.
Despite these constraints, the enthusiasm of schools, teachers, and students demonstrates that the project remains highly relevant and impactful. With sufficient funding, the initiative is well-positioned to resume seedling distribution and expand outreach, inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards in rural Bangladesh.
