Getting All Children into School

By Aissata Elvise SAWADOGO | Assistante chargee du Genre

As part of the "Free Tuition for Displaced Children in Burkina Faso" project, the association Global NEEED Burkina is implementing a program to support internally displaced students in the Yaadga region. The goal is clear: to ensure no child is left out of school, even during times of crisis. These measures aim to guarantee that every girl and boy can learn, receive an education, thrive, and actively participate in the country's development.

Despite government efforts that have enabled the reopening of some schools in the Yaadga region over the past two years, the situation remains concerning. On average, four out of ten students are no longer attending school. This issue has intensified due to persistent insecurity in several areas of the country.

Thanks to the free tuition program, Global NEEED Burkina has enabled 256 internally displaced primary and secondary school students to attend school during the 2025–2026 academic year, while also providing them with the necessary school supplies. The year-end results are remarkable, with a 95% success rate. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness and relevance of the support provided.

Some students have inspiring aspirations. Some wish to become teachers to pass on the knowledge they have gained and educate future generations, while others want to pursue careers in nursing to care for and alleviate the suffering of children and families in the region or across Burkina Faso. There are also those who wish to work in the humanitarian sector.

We are issuing a call for support: please back Global NEEED Burkina in its efforts. Every contribution, whether large or small, helps give these children a real chance to learn, dream, and build a better future, despite the crises.
