The year is coming to an end and our statistics show that upto end November we have admitted 1493 patients who were critically ill with the cancer in the last stages. These patients came to us hoping for relief from pain which we were able to give them.  This also brought relief for their care-takers as their relative  was assured of care  and they could go for work and earn their much needed wages.  This year we were able to take in more patients after converting back to wards some of the rooms being used as offices.  This was possible once the new administration block was ready.

Construction of the two new wards is underway and will be functional before the end of this financial year i.e. by the end of March  2016 . We can then accomodate an additional 24 patients and we won't have to turn back patients for want of beds

The donations received from you have gone a long way to help the patients relax without worrying about their next meal, their next dose of medicines or dressings for their wounds. One such patient who was admitted was Francis, a young married man who had a wife,  two daughters and a son. . He was very particular about his looks but unfortunately he contracted mouth cancer. As the disease progressed the bad odour was unbearable and his behaviour towards his family members changed drastically.  He would snap at them all the time and they started to keep away from him until the day came when his wife left him and went away with the three children. After he was admitted to Karunashraya the counsellors spoke to him and also to his wife  convincing them to meet and to be there for each other. After a few weeks of this they agreed to meet and Francis was so happy to meet his family once again.  He had accepted his diagnosis and the prognosis and hence was able to be pleasant to his family. He passed away peacefully  a week later.

The festive season is here and we, the patients and staff at Karunashraya send the Seasons Greetings your way wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and all the very best for the coming year.
