Dear Donors,
Growing old should come with care, companionship, and the comfort of knowing that someone will be there when you become sick.
Sadly, this is not the experience of every elderly person in Nigeria.
Some older people have no pension or regular income. Some have lost a spouse. Others depend on children and relatives who are themselves struggling financially. When illness comes, paying for a medical test, transportation, consultation, and medicine can become difficult.
A 2025 peer-reviewed review of ageing and healthcare in Nigeria found that older Nigerians face a combination of poverty, chronic illness, limited health insurance, distance from healthcare, and high treatment costs. The study reported that poverty among women aged 70 and above may be as high as 85%.
Behind a number like that are mothers and grandmothers who have spent much of their lives caring for other people.
Now, some of them need someone to care for them.
An elderly woman living with diabetes needs regular monitoring. An older man with hypertension needs to know his blood pressure and have access to his medicine. Missing treatment because there is no money can allow a manageable condition to become far more dangerous.
Our project is helping us take care closer to people like them.
Our medical team provides basic health checks and free medicines for hypertension, diabetes, malaria, and common infections. Where necessary, people who require further medical attention are referred for further care.
Sometimes helping an elderly person begins with something as simple as checking their blood pressure, listening to how they have been feeling, and making sure they have the medicine they need.
To our donors, thank you for helping us remember people who spent many years caring for families and communities and now need care themselves.
If their stories touch your heart, please share this project with someone you know or start a fundraiser on its behalf.
Together, every donation can help another elderly person receive care with dignity.
With gratitude,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
