Thanks to your donations and the support from several charitable foundations, the MBS Jewelry Center is runnig in the Darjeeling area in India. We continue to partner with Women's Interlink Foundation in this endeavour. Girls are being trained in artisan goldsmithing in Jalpaiguri. An expert designer came in for a time to do some initial training. Now the girls are being trained and supervised by Soma.
Soma began jewelry making at the Made By Survivors Calcutta Jewelry Center. She quickly picked up the skills and even began creating designs of her own. Not only does Soma excel in jewelry making and design but she has also learned the business skills for managing a jewelry business. Soma even has started her own jewelry business. We are so proud of her.
Soma can relate with the survivors in the MBS programs. She comes from a disheartening situation, while not trafficked, she was abused and mistreated. Her abilities in jewelry are matched by her empathy and compassion. Soma is a wonderful trainer, mentor, and role model for the girls at the Jalpaiguri jewelry center. They see Soma as someone they can become - to rise out of their past into a bright future.
Thanks for being a part of creating bright futures for the girls in Jalpaiguri. Please visit our
website to purchase some of the beautiful pieces of handmade silver jewelry they have created.
