Free a Family from Debt and Child Labor

Project Report

1. Executive Summary

The Breaking the Chains project is an urgent humanitarian intervention designed to rescue Shazia and her five children from the devastating burden of debt bondage and extreme poverty.

After the tragic death of her husband, Shazia was left with heavy debts and no stable source of income. To survive, she now works as a housemaid under harsh conditions, while her children face the growing threat of child labor and exploitation.

This project aims to free the family from debt, provide immediate food, shelter, healthcare, and education, and establish a small sustainable livelihood for Shazia so she can rebuild her life with dignity and independence.

2. Problem Statement

Debt bondage remains a hidden crisis affecting vulnerable widows and children in impoverished communities. In this case:

  • A grieving widow carries inherited debt with no financial security
  • Five children are at high risk of forced labor
  • The family struggles daily for food and shelter
  • Access to education and healthcare is extremely limited
  • Poverty and debt create a cycle of exploitation and hopelessness

Without urgent intervention, the family may remain trapped in modern-day economic slavery.

3. Project Goal

To release Shazia and her five children from debt bondage and restore their freedom, security, and dignity through immediate relief and long-term livelihood support.

4. Project Objectives

  • To pay off the family’s outstanding debt
  • To protect the children from child labor and exploitation
  • To provide food, shelter, and emergency medical care
  • To enroll and support the children in school
  • To establish a small income-generating livelihood for Shazia
  • To restore long-term stability and independence for the family

5. Project Activities

The project will implement the following:

  • Debt repayment to secure the family’s freedom
  • Emergency food assistance and household essentials
  • Rental support and safe shelter arrangements
  • Medical checkups and healthcare assistance
  • Educational enrollment, uniforms, and supplies for the children
  • Livelihood startup support (small business or home-based income activity)
  • Ongoing family support and monitoring

6. Expected Outcomes & Impact

This project will create a life-changing impact:

  • Freedom from debt and exploitation
  • Protection of five children from child labor
  • Access to education and a stable future
  • Improved health, nutrition, and living conditions
  • Sustainable income generation for Shazia
  • Long-term break from the cycle of poverty and dependency

7. Financial Overview

  • Total Project Goal: $5,000
  • Funds Raised: $101
  • Remaining Balance: $4,899
  • Donors: 3

8. Urgency & Immediate Need

This family’s situation is critical. Every day without support increases the risk of deeper debt, hunger, and child exploitation. Immediate funding is urgently needed to secure their freedom and provide a foundation for rebuilding their lives.

This is not just financial assistance, it is an act of rescue.

9. Conclusion

The Breaking the Chains project offers more than temporary relief; it provides a pathway to freedom, dignity, and hope. By helping Shazia and her children, donors can directly intervene in breaking a cycle of debt, poverty, and exploitation.

Your support can save this family from slavery and give them a second chance at life.
