2021 FOUR PAWS Updates. Animal Welfare Worldwide

By Silvia Morales | FOUR PAWS International

Dearest supporters,

Here are our FOUR PAWS updates and news on our animals and missions! Let’s get right into it and start with some amazing news about bear Martha.

Today is Martha’s big day

Martha has never experienced what a bear’s life should be. She was forced to perform in a circus and afterwards kept near a restaurant in Ukraine. For the last 13 years she has been trapped in a tiny barren cage, with no possibility to occupy herself.

We couldn’t give up on her. And we didn’t. Only thanks to supporters like you, Lisinka, can Martha arrive safely in her new home in our BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr.

Martha currently is in an indoor enclosure. There, she will get all the time she needs to acclimatise to the new surroundings. Our dedicated care-takers will monitor her closely to find out when she is comfortable enough to be released into her outdoor enclosure. We can’t wait to see how she will react when she discovers her new pool and enrichments!

Your voice can help protect animals used in the fashion industry

Following FOUR PAWS' successes for animals used for fashion over the years, we recently launched the Wear it Kind program, and you can take part!

Every year, over two billion animals are used in fashion, many experiencing pain, suffering, and stress. You can be the change they deserve! Take the pledge to Wear it Kind to help ensure animal-friendly fashion is the only kind of fashion there is.

Wear a wardrobe that helps celebrate animals, humans, and the planet. You’ll look good and feel good knowing you’re supporting a better world for animals every day. Check out all the ways you can take action to protect animals used in fashion:

Elephant Kaavan in his own piece of jungle

After months of planning and construction, the giant we rescued from a zoo in Pakistan, where he had to live in isolation and poor conditions for decades, was finally released to his very own amazing jungle enclosure at the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary.

The former loneliest elephant in the world is now able to roam freely and explore his spacious new home. Our hearts are melting as we watch Kaavan being happy, calm, and finally doing what elephants should be doing. He is, at last, living the species-appropriate and peaceful life that he deserves, and we couldn’t be happier for him! Watch the video to see how our vet Marina reacts to his new life.
