It has been a year when this coronavirus pandemic rocked the entire world. This has led to unfavorable decisions that not only Foundation University has to make but various companies most especially that of the construction business.
The construction of this building has slowed down immensely. Much as this pandemic offered a big chance to continue building the Science Wing in the absence of face to face classes to get it ready when the time comes that government regulations will ease to allow students to come to school, however, the following factors greatly affected to temporarily table this project:
1) employee health and safety - in the absence of vaccines in Dumaguete City, the university deemed the construction workplace as unsafe considering the sudden rise of Covid positives in the city at this time.
2) shortage of supply of materials - government's efforts on quarantine regulations have slowed down shipment therefore affecting the supply.
3) cost of materials - prices of materials went so much higher than the usual.
4) finance - finances have totally dried up considering that the university has been depending totally on tuition income and donations.
In construction, everything comes down to money and time and all are quite uncertain on how its going to be, how long this situation will last and what impact it is going to be. the university is just hoping that through GlobalGiving donations we will be a back on our feet again. Meantime, efforts are ongoing to preserve and maintain the existing structure from the elements.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
