ABOUT FOSTER CARE:

YCDA has initiated the Alternative Family Based Care Programme focusing on care and protection of the children through community-based rehabilitation and family focused alternative care arrangements to ensure the best interest of the children. YCDA plays a pioneer role in promoting non-institutional care in the State of Odisha, India through community centric childcare i.e., Foster Care/Group Foster Care & Kinship Care. Over the years, with a successful demonstration model, it has been considered that Fostercare is the best option for the family in a community to give care and protection who need care & protection. It has proven that this care arrangement is the most beneficial and desirable environment for the healthy growth and development of children. Placing a child in foster care gives the child a safe place to grow, either until the family circumstances improve enough to reunite the child with the parents or till permanent rehabilitation is done for the child.

During the period, our well experienced foster parents continue to provide support of love, caring, nurturing and stability to the children. All 100 children in foster care arrangements are safe at home and continuing their education.

YCDA SUPPORT MECHANISM DURING THE PERIOD:

Need based support to Children & families:

During the Period, the children continued the support of Dry food ration & Learning materials for the 100 children in Foster & Kinship families. Educational materials, monthly tuition fees and other need-based support were provided to the children regularly during the period. Time to time we have encouraged children provided with the learning & extra co-curricular materials & make them engaged with different methodology like paper crafts, coloring, storytelling the feeling, creative drawings. This nutrition kit helped the family members in supplement of intake the nutrients items in their daily meals a day. This happiness kit brought joy among the vulnerable families. YCDA also has taken an initiative to provide those families with financial support to start a source of income, as per their capacity and interest called Income Generation Program (IGP). The families are also supported with some amount of money as loans from the revolving support to these families. YCDA helps them in making proper business plans and provide handholding and technical support from time to time. Thus, through this IGP support families now gain profit and thus spend this profit money earned for the education of the children.

Training to Children on Leadership & lifeskills:

The capacity building trainings on Leadership; life skill education have been organized where 200 children were well oriented about how to build their leadership quality. Mainly children were focused on how to take a positive effort on the things i.e take forward the social acceptation with their friends, building good relationship with peers, teachers, elders, parents etc., keeping Self esteem, establish the social behavior, avoid of negative feelings. Through the capacity building training children have learnt the priority principles such as We trust and help each other, All are equal and in same space, Listen to each other and share the feelings with others.  The children were well oriented about the 10 steps of life skill education through storytelling, games and role play which has helped them to follow their routine life.

Celebrating the participation of Children:

YCDA creates a small initiative to create a child friendly learning atmosphere through child participation where children learn, play, showcasing their potential through the event organized for them. In the eve of Independence Day, YCDA has created the opportunity for the children to develop the social competence and increased their potentiality through participating in different events i.e creative writing, debate, running, quiz competition, clay models, craft making etc. Knowledge and effective participation have been improved among the children. Around 500 children have got the opportunity of participating in the events on a platform, sharing their views on their issues and participating in different competitions and they enhanced their potential heroically. A winning attitude developed among the children which enhanced their confidence to participate actively. These events have been resulted to enhance the participation & potentiality of the children and make them efficient for leadership quality through prizes distribution.

Health Checkup of Children:

Every Child’s health is very important for growing and developing in their ways. Because of the poor financial condition, guardians are sometimes unable to meet the medical expenses of the children. In this period, we have been organizing health checkup camps for children and provide routine checkups, medicines, and immediate healthcare facilities. In these camps also raising awareness on maintenance of health and hygiene of children through practicing the cleanness through cutting of nails, washing hands, wearing clean clothes and regular health checkup of children.
