During the second wave coronavirus pandemic, caring for children in foster care is more important and even more challenging than the usual day given by foster and kinship caregivers. In the lockdown ,many of the children have experienced depression, anxiety and trauma, leaving them more vulnerable to the changes that come with sharing of their thoughts ,school closings, lack of playing & daily contact with peer groups /friends, Use of mask and other forms of social /physical distancing. The third wave is likely to attack children and Vaccination is not yet open for children under 18 years, they will be more vulnerable in the third wave, so the preparedness among the children & caregivers is the need of an hour.
During the period, our foster parents continue to provide support, love, caring and stability to the children. All 100 children in Foster care arrangements are safe at home.
Key interventions during the period:

In this pandemic situation, we stay connected with the families through our text messages, video calling, phone calls & family visits which help & contribute to child and parent well -being. With the support of health workers, ASHA, Anganwadi workers have taken up different innovative activities to raise awareness among the community about the COVID-19 appropriate behaviours & vaccination. We empowered the caregivers parenting skills on safe practices including DO & Don’t at home & got vaccine as a preventive approach. Families are maintaining the protocols such as handwashing, wear a mask & social distancing accordingly. Children are engaged in drawing, colouring , story writing etc. and expressed their feelings easily.
