Children in Families

Summary:

In this corona virus pandemic, caring for children in foster care can be even more challenging than the usual day given by parents, foster and kinship caregivers. Children in foster care have often survived a lifetime of uncertainty and change, both before entering foster care and during foster care. Many of these children have experienced adversity and trauma, leaving them more vulnerable to the changes that come with school closings, lack of daily contact with peer groups /friends, Use of mask and other forms of social /physical distancing. There is also the issue of social distancing, with children not being able to see their biological parents, along with education and home-schooling creating an immense challenge for already stressed foster parents & caregivers.

Despite the practical and emotional challenges that corona virus is bringing. Our foster parents/caregivers continue to provide support, love, caring and stability to the children. All 100 children in Foster Care & Kinship Care arrangements are safe at home.

Key Progress during the Period:

Psychosocial Support & Engagement of children:

During the period , we do our regularly visit to the families & we the staff are stay connected with 100 children and provide them the basic information on the COVID-19. We encouraged them to stay at home & continuing theirs at home through online express and education coaching classes at their villages.Time to time we have encouraged children provided with the learning & extra co-curricular materials & Make them engaged with different methodology like paper crafts, coloring, story telling the feeling, creative drawings. With this, the children are slowly come up & expressed their inner emotions, fears, and stress & anxiety behaviours. All the children are safe & happy in the family.

Provide Dry Ration /meal kit to the Families:

During the Period, the families are unable to fulfil their requirements for adequate meals at this crucial time of pandemic & YCDA continued the support of Dry food ration , Hygiene kit & Learning materials for the 100 children in Foster & Kinship families. The families were provided with Rice, Dal, Oil, Onion, Potato , Sugar, Flaked Rice, Soap, Biscuit, learning kits includes art books, notebooks, colour pencil , pen kits

Making Hand washing & Use of mask a Family Habit:

To fight against COVID-19 handwashing   & use of mask are two main methods. Hand washing helps us to prevent from germs & Use of mask reduces the transmission of germs. The Knowledge and practice of hand washing is low among rural mothers. Hence with required need during the period the importance of proper and regular hand washing tips by using soap & clean water has been demonstration among the care givers for awareness generation. Caregivers & Parents are practising regularly and teaching their child to wash hand properly.

Training to Frontline workers on Mental Health & Psychosocial Support to children:

This COVID-19 pandemic has placed families & children under immense and unique pressure, putting their physical, mental and social well-being at risk. Looking this training has been conducted for the 100 frontline workers on Mental Health & Psychosocial support for enhancing their capacity to deal with the mental & psychosocial issues during the pandemic & keep children engage in different activities to avoid the stress, depression etc. During the period these front line workers are helping us to outreach to the families & prove them counselling support in regular basis.

Hi,

I am 9 years old reading in class 4th & living with my grandparents. My Grandmother is taking care of me very much & encourages me in my studies. I love to colouring the pictures and making drawings. During this pandemic, with the all your support we got a meal to have & i spent my time in studies as well as making drawing & colouring pictures in leisure times. Sometimes my grandfather helps me for this.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you
