There are currently 56 children in our care; 26 of which still drink formula. Your donations enable us to provide these babies with the specific formula that their tummies need! Whether it be soy, anti-reflux, anti-allergy, premature formula, or lactose free; thanks to your help, we are able to provide these little ones with the nutrition that their bodies need to thrive. We believe that breastfeeding is the best option in a lot of cases, but unfortunately, the majority of the children that come to us are unable to breastfeed because of complications, which is specialty formula is a crucial aspect of what we do here in Haiti.
We currently have a set of triplets in our NICU: two girls & one boy. They came to us in April weighing between 2 lbs 2 oz & 2 lbs 5 oz. Their mom is HIV positive, and therefore could not breastfeed her babies. We started them out on donor breastmilk, and have now transferred them to a specialty formula. They now weigh between 5 lbs 10 oz & 6 lbs 10 oz! This growth is a testament to the power of prayer, the hard work of our NICU nurses, as well as the importance of specialty formula. These three little ones are growing and thriving because they are receiving the nutrients and care that they need to survive!
Life is hard in Haiti, but for these three, survival did not look promising. Not only were they premature, but their mom had passed down the HIV virus during labor and delivery. Thankfully, with the combination of specialized care that they have received in our NICU along with antiretroviral medication, they are not HIV positive! Nutrition is key to helping babies fight off serious diseases, like HIV, and without access to specialty formula, these triplets’ story could have played out much differently. The triplets will soon be able to go home with the mom & dad, and we are absolutely thrilled!
We cannot thank you enough for your support. Watching infants, like these triplets, grow into healthy children is such a privilege, and we truly could not do what we do without your help!
