Summary

There are 43 slums in Pokhara, and girls face limits-but they can rise and thrive with support. The Football4Future project empowers these marginalized girls in Pokhara's slum communities through football training, life skills, and mentorship. By building confidence, creating safe spaces, and connecting them to career paths in sports, we help girls rise above poverty and gender barriers. Working with schools, we aim to reach 450 girls and promote gender equality in Nepal's football sector.

Challenge

Pokhara is a migrating destination. Pokhara's 43 slums house 15,000+ children facing poverty, poor education, and discrimination. About 20% don't attend school regularly, and 25% work as child laborers. Many live in unsafe, unhealthy conditions, causing physical and mental health issues. Girls face greater barriers: only 30% play sports due to stereotypes and social taboos, limiting their growth and exposing them to violence. This traps slum children, especially girls, in cycles of exclusion.

Solution

This project uses football to build skills, confidence, and teamwork among marginalized youth. Training, mentorship, and life skills sessions help students overcome social barriers like gender inequality and poor health. Tournaments create safe, inclusive spaces that foster belonging and discipline. Expanding to more schools ensures lasting impact by opening pathways to education, sports careers, and leadership, breaking cycles of poverty and exclusion.

Long-Term Impact

The project will empower marginalized youth, especially girls, by improving education, health, and social inclusion through sports. It will foster leadership, gender equality, and community cohesion, breaking cycles of poverty and discrimination. By institutionalizing football programs and gender safeguarding, it creates sustainable opportunities for careers in sports and personal growth, contributing to stronger, healthier, and more inclusive communities in Nepal.
