You ensure people don't have to choose between food and rent
"I've been here in Oregon for five years," says Gemma. "I came from the Philippines and it was really hard for me to find jobs. I decided to go back to school and take some classes so I could improve my English."
"The biggest part of our incomes goes to rent, and it goes up every year. Sometimes we don't know how we're going to get through the month. We are getting food at the food bank, then I have money to pay bills."
Gemma also lacks convenient transportation. "One of the hardest things is taking the bus everywhere. We cannot afford a car but the bus can be pretty expensive, too... especially since I dont' make a lot to start with." She dreams of finding a better job and a home closer to her mom.
Your support helps Gemma make ends meet as she works to improve her life.
